Christian Hospital Christian Hospital operates 220 acute care beds in north St. Louis County and is noted for its excellence in heart services, cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedics, vascular, emergency medicine, cancer treatment, imaging services, urology, pulmonology, and radiation oncology. Founded in 1903, Christian Hospital has consistently demonstrated its commitment to providing needed medical services to the community. Today, Christian Hospital has nearly 500 physicians on staff and a diverse workforce of more than1,900 health care professionals dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care using the latest technology and equipment. Position Summary Reporting to the President of Christian Hospital and the BJC HealthCare Vice President of Patient Care Systems, the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Christian Hospital serves as the senior executive overseeing patient care services nursing across all clinical settings. The CNO is responsible for the alignment of nursing care across the hospital’s clinical settings through appropriate standardization and the identification and adoption of evidence based clinical guidelines and consistent management standards to reduce variation in practice. The CNO is a member of the Executive Team at Christian Hospital. At the BJC system level, the CNO is a member of the BJC Clinical Chief Nurse Officer Council. The purpose of the CNO council is to guide and direct practices to achieve success in key result areas and to address key issues that directly impact nursing and care delivery. Committee and board membership at the BJC level provides a mechanism to support the interests of CH nurses at the corporate level, and to work with other BJC leaders to guide the future and the continued advancement of the organization and the professional practice of nursing. Key Responsibilities - Works to develop strong succession planning and team building within the senior nursing leadership team. - Ensures nursing practices are in compliance with federal and state regulations and requirements of all regulatory bodies. - As a member of BJC’s Chief Nursing Officer, Clinical Leadership and Patient Care Services Operations (PCSOC) Councils as well as the health system's Nursing Workforce Initiative, actively participates in developing and leading innovative solutions to clinical and operational challenges across all BJC Health Services Organizations. - Works to develop strong succession planning and team building within the senior nursing leadership team. - Ensures nursing practices are in compliance with federal and state regulations and requirements of all regulatory bodies. - As a member of BJC’s Chief Nursing Officer, Clinical Leadership and Patient Care Services Operations (PCSOC) Councils as well as the health system's Nursing Workforce Initiative, actively participates in developing and leading innovative solutions to clinical and operational challenges across all BJC Health Services Organizations. - Plans, directs and is continuously responsible for the overall administration of the Department of Nursing and provision of nursing services throughout Christian. - Breaks down silos and helps to build strong interdisciplinary teams. - Integrates the clinical programs of Nursing and Patient Care Services with other programs of Christian Hospital, programs of BJC HealthCare and medical staff in a manner that facilitates achievement of goals and objectives. - Participates in the organization’s long range strategic planning activities as a senior member of the leadership team promoting excellence in interprofessional practice, developing integrated clinical care systems across healthcare environments and ensuring the continuation of high reliability care. - Builds upon an exemplary, world-class professional nursing organization and creates a vision that is competitive with other community hospitals including a culture of inclusivity and team based care. - Ensures that patient care delivery model(s) and clinical and staffing standards for nursing are consistent with contemporary research in nursing practice and professional standards. - Will be mindful of the history and culture of the organization and question and/or modify various policies with a sensitivity and appreciation for populations served by Christian/BJC. - Oversees the development of annual budgets, monitors fiscal integrity of nursing services and other areas, and evaluates cost effectiveness of services, procedures and programs. - In partnership with human resources, develops a workforce plan responding to the growing and/or changing clinical needs of the organization. - Works collaboratively with surgeons to grow surgical volumes. - Oversees the development of a collaborative and coordinated inter-professional approach to patient care delivery inclusive of promoting and fostering proactive and positive relationships with physicians, clinical staff, executive and operational leaders within the system. - In partnership with other senior leaders, leads a quality improvement program that enhances clinical and nurse sensitive outcomes, patient satisfaction, safety, and efficient patient flow and evaluates work intensity in the clinical environment. - Utilizes evidence based research and management research relating to healthcare organizations, patient care delivery, and administrative practices. Desired Outcomes - Embraces nursing staff and promotes greater alignment and consistency of processes. Pays particular attention to newer hires and proactively addresses efforts around succession planning. - Evaluates and re-aligns support systems including (and not limited to) LEAN initiatives, Patient Experience, HR and other functional areas to ensure appropriate integration of nursing across key patient care influences. - Effectively leads teams through changing environment both internally and across other BJC facilities. - Demonstrates relentless drive and problem solving skills against key projects. - Assumes key role in deploying operating system at CH, especially in key clinical areas and service lines such as cancer, heart and vascular, and neurology. - Builds stronger partnership between nursing leaders and physicians partners at the unit level in order to promote the highest quality clinical care at the bedside. - Demonstrates awareness of effective operational paradigms such as dyad partnerships or other collaborative models. Promotes better standardization across key clinical processes and advances a culture of innovation. - Partners with BJC leadership on piloting new staffing models geared towards improving retention.

Ideal Experience - Ten years’ progressive leadership experience within a complex hospital environment. - A proven leader of people who can recruit, develop, mentor and retain a top-notch team capable of supporting future growth in a fiscally responsible manner. - Demonstrated nursing leadership in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion with the populations served and working within the system. - Expertise in evolving professional practice models, systems thinking, and quality improvement processes. - Experience building and sustaining strong physician relationships. - A systems thinker and one who is willing to participate collaboratively to influence the process of care within their own organization and across the system based on best practice. - Proven track record of improving nursing operations with positive outcomes in quality, cost, productivity, patient throughput and patient, employee and physician satisfaction. - Master of Science in Nursing or other comparable Master’s Degree is required; eligible for RN licensure in the state of Missouri.
