Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Endocrinology

Geisinger is seeking an advanced practitioner to join our Endocrinology team at Geisinger Holy Spirit in Camp Hill, PA. In collaboration with the physician, this position serves in an expanded role to assess, diagnose, and treat adult Endocrine patients referred to the Endocrinology. Demonstrates autonomy through patient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. Orders testing as deemed necessary and remains proficient in interpreting results and prescribing appropriate medication regimen within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner. In collaboration with the Endocrinologist, manages and assists in the smooth, efficient operations of the outpatient Endocrinology clinic. Inpatient rounding for new and concurrent care Endocrinology consults in collaborative practice with Endocrinologist as directed. Communicates appropriately with patients and referring health care providers. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction. Reports to the Director of Endocrinology; reports administratively to the Operations Manager.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: - Must obtain and maintain BLS, and hold an updated CPR card. - Demonstrates computer literacy, accurate and timely charting via Electronic Medical Record (EMR) - Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment. - Demonstrates ability to function autonomously seeking assistance as needed from collaborating physician. - Demonstrates ability to work directly with patients in such a way to instill confidence and facilitate communication. - Demonstrates ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse medical personnel including but not limited to physicians, technicians, and nurses. - Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality. - Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and computer literacy. - Demonstrates flexibility with assuming duties/responsibilities in a variety of Endocrine settings.
WORKING CONDITIONS: - Clinical: Outpatient and Inpatient - Travel as indicated - Participation in the holiday/weekend/call schedule as indicated
EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE: The successful Advanced Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA. Requires at least two years of clinical nursing experience. Experience in wound and skin management preferred. The successful Physician Assistant candidate will work under the responsibility and supervision of the physician and require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification or eligibility and Pennsylvania State licensure.
