Director of Oncology Services

This position directs the overall operations of the Oncology Services program and is responsible for the day to day patient care management, safety, and experience of patients with cancer and hematologic diseases undergoing chemotherapy, and infusion therapy. The incumbent is responsible for the clinical and administrative components of the quality of patient care, personnel management, and quality assurance. Provides operational guidance and leadership to Clinical Managers and Charge Nurses; ambulatory oncology nurses and clinical staff; collaborates with clinical services in the budgetary, research, and clinical performance improvement activities; while striving for optimal outcomes for staff and patients. Reports to Chief Nursing Officer on all nursing practice and care issues. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT The individual shall perform a variety of responsible nursing care procedures requiring professional knowledge and consideration specific patient conditions and treatments and ability to work independently in completing assignments. The incumbent shall perform duties as assigned and ensure quality patient care despite the situation encountered, be it routine or emergent. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Requires the ability to handle multiple assignments, balance priorities, and make sound decisions. Physical: This position requires an individual of high energy that can maintain a long and flexible schedule to meet department and organizational requirements. Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time, able to hear and talk over the telephone and in person with others. The work includes walking, standing, bending, and carrying items such as portable laptop, office material, and books. Mental: Contacts often require tact and sensitivity as those related to stressful situation such as death, dying, and catastrophic illnesses. Must be able to prioritize and use good judgment. Must be able to collaborate with professional personnel on a wide variety of complex Oncology Services’ program issues.
IMPACT The incumbent oversees and directs patient care management, safety, and experience of patients undergoing chemotherapy, and has a very high impact on the quality of patient treatment and care at TCRHCC. NAVAJO/INDIAN PREFERENCE TCRHCC is located within the Navajo Nation and, in accordance with Navajo Nation law, has implemented a Navajo/Indian Preference in Employment Policy. NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS License/Certification:
Experience: Must have five (5) years’ practice experience as a nurse in the acute care and/or ambulatory care setting including three (3) years’ of oncology experience, and two (2) years of healthcare managerial experience Must have experience in all routes of infusion therapy, including peripheral lines, PICCs, implanted ports and other central venous access. Other Skills and Abilities: A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing or other healthcare or human services related field License/Certification: Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) – Oncology Certified Nurse ® Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card
Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in Oncology/Hematology office management and program startup and implementation experience is highly desirable. Other Preferred Skills and Abilities: Ability to speak Navajo
