Plans, directs implements and evaluates the operations of the Department consisting of a group of clearly defined personnel. Directs and participates in the department's planning, budgeting, education and human resource activities. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards and regulatory governing bodies. Initiates programs to improve organization performance to enhance provision of services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Must possess current N.J.. State Pharmacist License
Must possess a Bachelor's degree in related field. (Master's degree preferred)
Highly developed organizational, planning and management writing skills and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others
Understand the significance and role of the institution (Understanding and setting of goals, realistic scheduling and observance of deadlines,knowledge and understanding of the constituencies and knowledge of the service area, integrity, creativity, intellectual curiosity, high standards,persistence, and achievement oriented.)
Must have the ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of subordinate staff engaged in various professional, technical, and clerical functions
Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships
Six (6) years' experience in Pharmacy with three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory position; or an equivalent combination of related training.

General Management Functions.
Meets Departmental goals and objectives within specific target dates.
Prioritizes activities and responsibilities appropriately to ensure completion of projects and assignments within deadlines.
Is supportive and enforces policies and procedures.
Identifies and revises policies as needed to ensure quality services.
Ensures policies are consistent with regulatory requirements (i.e.. JCAHO, NJDOH, etc.)
Directs, organized and coordinates the services of the Department and consistently manages all Department activities.

Human Resources Functions.
Interviews, selects and monitors staff to ensure high performance standards with emphasis on continuous quality improvement.
Performs annual evaluations, provides feedback and counseling in a timely and appropriate manner.
Completes appropriate Human Resource-related paperwork accurately and submits on a timely basis.
Provides for appropriate and documented orientation programs for all new hires.
Identifies needs, develops and implements regular in-service training and continuing education programs for all staff.
Attends at least one educational seminar/course per year and attends hospital educational events that are consistent with areas of responsibility.
Ensures professional demeanor and attire (uniform, name badge, grooming) of self and staff at all times.
Fiscal Management Functions.
Department budget is prepared with designated deadlines according to budgetary policies.
Budgetary preparation and implementation reflects cost savings and revenue generation through innovative methods.
Monthly management reports reflect adherence to the supply and expense budget.
Overtime is maintained within budgetary guidelines.
Monthly budget variances are submitted on time (i.e.. No more than one month per year submitted late).
Staffing remains within the budgeted FTE's. Variance are related to acuity and volume.
Capital expenditures budget is planned and submitted based on previous year's history and future projections and/or new revenues.
Makes and acts on suggestions for improving the operating efficiency of the Department.
Seeks new opportunities for revenue growth and expense reduction.
Effectively communicates throughout all levels of the organization and community.
Demonstrates the ability to identify and diplomatically resolve interpersonal or professional conflicts.

Under the auspices of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, promotes the practice standards of the profession of Pharmacy.
Promotes an effective drug use evaluation program, development of critical pathways, etc.
Proceedings of the P&T Committee are accurately reflected in the minutes. Actions and recommendations requiring follow-ups are researched and appropriately addressed during the next scheduled meeting 95% of the time.
Actively participates in formulary management and review. Promotes positive patient outcomes via cost effective medication regimens.
Ensures that all formulary medications are available at all times. Takes appropriate action when manufactures back-orders and recalls exist to ensure no interruption to patient's therapy.
Ensures pharmacy practice complies with regulatory and legal standards of the State Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Administration, etc.
Ensures that all potentially hazardous medications are stored, prepared and dispensed in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
Attends and participates in activities of the Professional and Trade organizations (i.e.. American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, New Jersey Society of Hospital Pharmacists, NJHA/VHA Pharmacy Councils, etc.).
To improve the patient experience by providing health care providers; patients and their families; and others with information, education, networking opportunities, and related resources focused on best practices.
