Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, fills all physician orders/prescriptions which include all oral, topical, and injectable medications as well as
nutrition. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients. Demonstrates proficiency in more than one work area and is assigned to work in a designated
area determined by the pharmacy manager when applicable upon completion of internal department requirements.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
Works under the general supervision of the department supervisor or operational Manager/Director.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
COMMUNICATION SKILLS-Demonstrates oral, written, and electronic communication skills. HEALTHCARE KNOWLEDGE-Knowledge of the operating principles,
major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related
GENERAL COMPUTER COMPETENCIES- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers or workstations.
TEAM PLAYER- Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required.
Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
Must accrue enough continuing education credits to maintain the certification
Complete 6,240 work hours as a pharmacy technician (previous non-Geisinger experience is acceptable if it can be verified)*.
Ability to work in two different work areas within the pharmacy or be certified in accordance with departmental standards to work independently and
proficiently as a technician in an area within the department outside of the central pharmacy that requires specialized technician skills.
*Flex employees do not need to be certified within one year of their hire date, however, they must fulfill all other internal departmental requirements
(i.e. tests, competencies, etc.) satisfactorily as a requirement to maintain their employment.
