J OB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations and in partnership with the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, the Director of Neurosurgery Operations will provide overall leadership, daily management and direction for the Department of Neurosurgery including but not limited to, strategic and financial planning, program development, capital and operational budget development and monitoring, human resource management, marketing and outreach, oversight of process improvement, quality initiatives, and state mandated requirements and reporting. The Director of Neurosurgery Operations will collaborate with the leadership of Penn State Health multidisciplinary centers of excellence (spine, stroke, pain, skull base and pituitary, etc.) to facilitate an excellent patient experience and to systematically improve access, quality and patient experience. Serves as the key operational leader for Neurosurgery and regularly interacts with the senior leadership of Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, academic ambulatory practice sites, Penn State College of Medicine, health system and system hospitals.
A reas of responsibility include oversight of Penn State Health's Leskell Gamma Knife(r) Icon(tm), the research labs at Penn State College of Medicine, and development of the Neurosurgery service offerings through strategic planning, business development and marketing of current and new initiatives to increase volume and revenues in line with the mission and values of Penn State Health.
M INIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Master's degree in business or related field required
T hree (3) years management experience in health care required
Must have experience with budgeting procedures and a demonstrated ability to function as an innovator and change agent
Must be able to develop an effective partnership with physicians and to communicate clearly with patients and all members of the staff
P REFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven track record of excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead individuals and team to accomplish common goals
Experience working with clinical and administrative leadership to drive strategic/business planning and financial and operational performance.

Hershey Medical Center and the Penn State Children's Hospital on our Hershey campus we have established Penn State Health Neurosurgery practices at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Reading and the Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. The department's residency program is a highly ranked program with a total resident complement of 21 and more than 300 applicants annually. The department is ranked 13th nationally among all US neurosurgery departments in NIH funding - with basic, translational and clinical research efforts in all subspecialty areas.
