Position Summary:

This position will interface between UNMH and the Black/African American Community in Bernalillo County and beyond for some state-wide initiatives. Prior Experience with coalition building within the B/AA community is essential.


Responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of programs to develop public awareness, knowledge, interest and understanding of Hospital services and programs. Cultivates outreach initiatives to develop, improve, and maintain effective relationships with community stakeholders. Represents the Hospital in interactions with the community and disseminates information on activities of public interest. Spearheads methods to identify, assess and measure needs that affect the overall health of communities served. Collaborates with staff, leadership, and works with teams to promote community engagement activities that support and align with the mission and strategic initiatives of the Hospital. Responsible for promotion of processes and policies that respond to the cultural, racial, and ethnic needs of the community we serve. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and department policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
Accountability:
  • LEADERSHIP – Fosters positive working relationships between the hospital and communities served through collaboration and mutuality, promoting meaningful sharing of power and decision-making to build trust

  • LEADERSHIP – Provides organization-wide leadership in the development and operation of community engagement and outreach; foster a collaborative interdisciplinary environment that promotes community engagement by working with hospital personnel to achieve desired results; ensure the efficient, economic, and quality performance that meet the needs of the Hospital and community served

  • STRATEGIC PLANNING - Develop long and short range plans in alignment with the overall strategic plan; provide leadership in the design and implementation of new community related initiatives

  • LIAISON - Acts as a liaison and resource across the organization to promote community engagement activities

  • LIAISON - Work with a broad range of community organizations and stakeholders to develop public awareness of Hospital services and programs

  • CONSUMER ENGAGEMENT – Lead an effective consumer engagement strategy that creates awareness around UNMH programs and services

  • OUTREACH - Identifies and coordinates opportunities to showcase UNMH as leaders in health care

  • COMMUNITY HEALTH - Spearheads methods to identify, assess and measure needs that affect the overall health of communities served

  • QUALITY – Integrate use of data, benchmarks and quality targets to identify process improvement opportunities

  • ADMINISTRATION - Perform various administrative functions such as monitoring expenditures and preparing reports and correspondence; may participate in a variety of research projects to develop service plans; may propose changes to program policies and procedures

  • BUDGET – assists with the preparation of the annual budget

  • DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

    • Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline

    • Experience Requirements:
  • 3 years directly related experience

    • Physical Demands Requirements:
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

    • Working Conditions Requirements:
  • No or min hazard, physical risk, office environment

  • May be required to travel to various work sites
