The Pharmacist's (Supervisory) primary responsibility is providing supervision, professional/administrative leadership and guidance to Inpatient IV room section of Pharmacy Service at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital and Clinics. EXTERNAL: This is an external announcement open to all US citizens. Veterans Preference applies to all applicants. Major Administrative/Supervisory duties include: Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Pharmacy admixture suites in conjunction and coordination with the Inpatient Pharmacy supervisors. Responsible for operation and control of all compounded sterile products (CSP) and associated equipment. Maintaining effective relations with medical, professional, and administrative staff of our institution. Professionally supervises/guides pharmacists, technicians, clerks, and students. Has direct line supervisory responsibility on a rotating basis for pharmacists and technicians within the outpatient or inpatient pharmacy areas. Conducts competency assessments, observes and reviews pharmacist and technician compounding techniques and coordinates/evaluates media fill testing, gloved fingertip sampling and hazardous drug containment techniques. Coordinates and oversees all aspects of CSP quality assurance program. Keeps all records and reports in compliance with regulations. Clinical Duties include: Verifying physicians' orders to be complete and appropriate for dose, route, and frequency. Screening orders for incompatibilities, patient allergies, and drug interactions. Evaluating a patient's ability to understand medication instructions and provides oral and written counseling on their drug therapy. Clarifies and resolves all problems identified which relate to patient drug therapy. Refers all matters requiring further administrative action to the Chief or Assistant (Associate) Chief of Pharmacy Service. Participates in emergency patient care, i.e. CPR team.
