This position is located in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service(PMRS) at the Hampton VA Medical Center. The clinical duties and responsibilities and administrative duties are carried out within the Hampton VAMC and associated CBOCs and future clinics in the Southside area. The other services in coordination of care may include primary care, surgery, medicine, mental health, social work, psychiatry, psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, neurology, and pharmacy. Administrative: - Participation in Quality Management activities - Participates in selected committees as designated by the supervisor - Expected to participate in appropriate continuing education activities as necessary - Familiar with and adheres to the Medical Staff Bylaws of this facility. - Expected to be cooperative in manner with other members of the medical/dental staff to achieve the goal or providing necessary care. - Adheres to the policies and procedures of this hospital. - Integral member of the PMRS Team as needed in the delivery of care for PMRS patients. - Support and ensure compliance on the part of his/her staff support of resident/PA/NP/DO student supervision policy, clinical reminders, completion of encounters and notes, performance measures and indicators as required by local, VISN and national policy Position Summary: - Must have working knowledge of outpatient services in addiction medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, kinesiotherapy, speech and language pathology, recreational therapy, social work, psychology, compensated work therapy, and rehabilitation nursing care. - Knowledge of Detoxification from drugs and alcohol; treatment of drug and alcohol use disorders; behavioral therapies and interventions to include group; administration and interpretation of psychometric tests (objective). - Treatment of mild/moderate mood and anxiety symptoms associated with chronic pain. - As a staff physician and pain medicine physician the incumbent provides support to the Pain Management program which includes training of providers within the Medical Center on various aspects of assessment and management of care for multiple diagnoses related to the specialty of addiction medicine and pain. - Responsibilities include providing patient care in the PMRS setting which includes the clinical outpatient area, subacute, and the inpatient setting as needed. - He/she provide physician services as specified in his/her clinical privileges. Services include new patient consultation, established (follow up) visits, Medication Assisted Treatment, and credentialed pain management procedures. - Responsible for providing the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and securing the informed consent of the patient/family needed before conducting invasive procedures. - Incumbent evaluates the patient to assess any changes in the physical status, and make recommendations for continue care as needed. - Physicians are expected to be BLS certified. - Participates in various hospital committees, department and hospital in-service programs and acquire CME's as required. - Work effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with respect and dignity. - Have working knowledge of outpatient services in pain, physical medicine and rehabilitation, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, kinesiotherapy, speech and language pathology, recreational therapy, social work, psychology, compensated work therapy, and rehabilitation nursing care. - Provide assessment physical and functional status of Veterans in the Physical Medicine and Pain clinics. - Provide recommendations and work with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care to provide optimal functioning, level of pain, and quality of life for Veterans. - As a staff physician, the incumbent provides support to the Pain Management program which includes training of providers within the Medical Center on various aspects of assessment and management of care for multiple diagnoses related to pain. - Assist with the performance of the Pain Management programs in the areas of consultation to the pain providers through regular interdisciplinary team meetings. - Provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. Incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The physician must demonstrate the knowledge of the changes associated with aging and possess the ability to provide care based upon age-related factors as specified on the competence assessment checklist. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday - 08:00am-4:30pm.
