We are seeking to hire a Director to lead the Pediatric Emergency Department at Overlook Medical Center. Overlook Medical Center is a 500 bed facility located in beautiful surburban New Jersey. The role will lead the operations of the pediatric emergency medicine department to include clinical and administrative responsibilities.
Provide direct clinical care for pediatric patients (ages birth to 21 y.o.) in the pediatric emergency department
Practice patient and family centered care including excellent communication with patients and parents
Ensure timely and effective telephone interactions with referring physicians from general practice and from specialties
Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all encounters in Epic
Maintain competencies and appropriate certifications for life support of newborns, infants, adolescents and young adults
Provide quality of care oversight of clinical staff including physicians and any advanced practice providers
Ensure that a fair and equitable work schedule and assignment of shifts is provided with adequate advance notice for all involved
Provide ongoing education and training to pediatric and adult emergency medicine providers to ensure the highest quality of care is provided to pediatric patients
Develop a system for ongoing quality improvement at OMC, including outcomes clinical research
Assist nursing supervisors and managers in the ongoing training of nursing staff, ensuring all staff have appropriate pediatric competencies and are maintaining those competencies
Actively participate in development of pediatric clinical guidelines, processes and policies relevant to pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric inpatient care for all AHS sites, and ensure that these are adhered to at OMC
Develop appropriate policies and procedures with chief of pediatric hospitalist medicine to ensure safe and efficient processes for patients being placed in observation or admitted from the ED. These should achieve high satisfaction from patients, families, attending staff, and resident physicians
Conduct regular, monthly meetings with chief of pediatric hospitalist medicine and any other stakeholders to promote good communication and adherence to all policies
Engage in outreach to community physicians and pediatric specialists to raise awareness of quality of care at OMC ED and to seek feedback regarding any concerns
Collaborate with the Chair of Pediatrics and Chair of Emergency Medicine in the recruitment of clinical staff
Ensure good communication and teamwork between physicians and nurses, as well among all staff including respiratory therapists, mental health providers, social workers and non-clinical support staff
In collaboration with Chair of Pediatrics and Executive Service Line Director, ensure that short- and long-term goals are developed for the ED service that supports growth of services at Overlook Medical Center and maintenance of reputation as a high-quality program
Ensure that curriculum is developed and maintained for pediatric residents working in pediatric emergency medicine
Participate in teaching and supervision of houseofficers and medical students; ensure that other physicians on the team do so as well
Participate in relevant meetings at OMC as well as those for the department of pediatrics
Actively develop and participate in community education and scientific programs
Champion parent, patient, and stakeholder-physician satisfaction for the Center utilizing existing Hospital feedback metrics as well as implementing a regular mechanism to gather feedback from physicians and act upon that information.
Board-certification in Pediatrics
Board-certification in Emergency Medicine and/or Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Leadership experience in pediatric emergency medicine or pediatric inpatient medicine
