To perform organized clerical duties for Perioperative Evaluation and Preparation Department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answers incoming calls and handles patient questions, makes appointments and directs callers to appropriate team.
Supports chart room prep area as needed for the main OR.
Supports POETS (Pre evaluation and treatment services) in conjunction with PEP.
Generates patient clinical information folder and maintains efficient filing system.
Initiates request for pre surgical testing, consents, and History and Physicals from outside testing facilities and physician offices.
Receives FAX and incoming mail and distributes/files appropriately.
Receives and places calls and handles telephone requests with courtesy, tactfulness and accuracy.
Maintains a neat, clean, hazard free office at all times. Maintains appropriate supplies in the department.
Performs assignments that need to be completed even when outside the scope of routine responsibilities and adaptable to change in departmental work flow: team player.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
Performs other related duties as required.
SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
Daily contact with patients, visitors, employees and medical staff.
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Directly reports to the Nurse Manager of the department. Receives direction from PEP Coordinators and Patient Care Coordinator as appropriate. Demonstrates compliance with system wide and departmental policies and procedures and core values.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent
One year experience in reception, registration, business office, or related area.
An equivalent combination of experience and education may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of the clerical duties specific to the Department of Perioperative Evaluation and Preparation.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to effectively communicate utilizing verbal and written skills.
Ability to operate departmental computer system and other equipment in an accurate and safe manner.
Ability to exercise judgement, tact, and diplomacy.
Ability to act independently within established procedures and policies.
Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, climb as per Physical Demands Checklist.
Frequent exposure to printer noise.
