The Surgical Simulation Research and Education Associate is a high-level position for an individual who is a self-sustaining Scientist and Educator that has achieved recognition in his/her field of endeavor. He/she will lead surgical education research that will focus its educational research in an area that is compatible with the goals of Baylor and the Division of Surgical Education. As well as, meets with the approval of the Director of Surgical Education and Research as well as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery. The Associate is responsible for management of his/her research portfolio and for assuring that the work is in accordance with the Departments and Baylor Scott & White Research Institute (BRI) standards.
While the Associate may receive supplemental funds from BRI, it is the Associate’s responsibility to obtain grants that will support his/her research and to produce data that is worthy of publication in leading scientific journals and has patent potential. The Surgical Simulation Research and Education Associate is a member of the Department of Surgical Education and plays a role in the continued growth and development of the Department. He/she may be asked to serve on committees, develop collaborations or act as a liaison with external departments.
WHAT IS EXPECTED (ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS):
Identify, apply and drive successful outcomes for intramural, extramural and other funding opportunities related to simulation based medical education to improve cognitive, psychomotor, affective, team and communication skills.
Perform research and publish manuscripts related to simulation based education in national and international journals.
Practice and provide technology based simulation strategies to enhance simulation education solutions for healthcare workers.
In conjunction with program leadership, this role supports the state of the art educational and research mission of BUMC and is responsible for the R&D operations of the simulation program.
Coordinate with vendors for their education and training needs and collaborate with them to provide simulation based education solutions.
Uses sound reasoning to effectively persuade relationships with other institutions and collaborate with them on ongoing and future simulation based education related projects.
Assist the Medical Director of the Academic Simulation Program to develop an aligned mission statement, vision statement, goals and objectives for the Center for Evidence Based Simulation.
Promote the brand name and develop marketing strategies for the CEBS. Follow up with customers to ensure quality service and improve the simulation based training environment.
Work as liaison between Academic Simulation Program and Baylor Research Institute.
Guide medical students, residents and fellows in their simulation research endeavors.
Lead and direct training assignments, tasks, and schedules. Able to facilitate the development, implementation and assessment of simulation research with faculty. Able to work flexible schedules that may include evening and weekend assignments.
Represent Center for Evidence Based Simulation in regional, national and international meetings.
-Ph.D./Ed.D with a track record of publications and applying for intramural and extramural grants related to simulation based education and training.
-2-5 years teaching and research experience at the University level.
