GENERAL DUTIES:
The Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist will support hospital-wide performance improvement efforts through facilitation and co-leadership of multidisciplinary teams. The CQI Specialist will act as an internal consultant for all levels of the organization providing team facilitation, leadership, coaching, change management, and process improvement. The CQI Specialist will provide education and training for teams and departments on performance improvement tools and strategies with lean principles. This position will also support the Chief Quality Officer (CQO) and the organization through use of clinical expertise in review of concerns regarding the quality of clinical care provided.
- Will work under the direction of the Clinical Quality Coordinator and the CQO to ensure assignments are completed according to time frames and quality expectations.
- Assist in performing studies/reviews for evaluation and update of the Performance Improvement Program and the Performance Improvement Plan.
- Participates when needed, with the leaders of the hospital committees in the development and revision of clinical indicators and monitoring.
- Assists hospital departments with the planning, implementing, and monitoring of their quality/performance improvement programs as needed.
- Collect, analyze and present clinical quality data as needed. This may include hospital performance improvement reviews, medical staff data, peer review data and regulatory data collection and analysis.
- Facilitates clinically focused multidisciplinary Performance Improvement Teams for improved clinical outcomes related to the Balanced Score Card and other quality initiatives.
- Conducts quality of care reviews related to complaints and will determine if care is appropriate and make referrals for further review as appropriate.
- Provides assistance to surveyors in review of clinical records and policies as needed.
- Performs clinical reviews as it pertains to eSRM and adverse events and identifies charges related to an event as requested by Patient Safety Officer/Risk Manager.
- Provides ongoing education and training pertinent to performance improvement based on customer�s needs assessments.
- Coach and facilitate prioritized improvement initiatives to achieve desired outcomes.
- Facilitate teamwork and communications to assure optimal outcomes in the provision of performance improvement services to the organization.
- Ensures confidentiality with patient and physician information, PHI, and demonstrates understanding of HIPAA.
- Assists and performs follow-up focus studies as requested by leadership, Medical Staff and/or CQO.
- Develops positive relationships with hospital administrators, hospital leaders and medical staff to identify areas that require quality improvements and makes recommendations to improve quality.
- Assists department directors/managers with design of monitoring programs to meet performance improvement plans.
- Answers the phones and responds to our customer needs professionally and without complaints.
- Participates willingly in department monthly meetings and weekly meetings to encourage team work and efficiency with in the department.
- Willingly takes on additional assignments as needed within the department, including providing back up for other Quality Services staff and assists in promoting teamwork in the Quality Department.
- Reports to work on as scheduled on time, sufficiently rested to perform duties of the job.
- Takes initiative in keeping Director fully informed on work related issues
Qualifications:POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Current CA RN license with a minimum of 5 years experience in acute hospital setting.
- Demonstrated experience in the application of Performance Improvement methods, including Lean, PDSA, data collection and analysis, and report writing.
- Experience in providing training, education, team facilitation and coaching.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and presentation skills. Can develop presentations using data and results to groups with varied needs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred:
- Experience in an acute hospital quality department.
- Bachelor�s degree in a health-related field.
- Experience in performance improvement, lean project management, and failure mode effects analysis
