Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital is seeking a Manager of Lab Quality Point of Care to join their team in Plattsburgh.
Overview
The Manager of Lab Quality Point of Care will serve as the main coordinator of compliance for the Clinical Laboratories’ Quality Management System, in coordination with department leadership and external regulatory agencies. This will be accomplished working with quality staff across the Clinical Laboratories to achieve compliance with all regulatory standards used by the Clinical Laboratories. This includes quality assurance, performance improvement, risk management, quality improvement educational programs, reviewing occurrences involving quality of care, compliance monitoring, and participation in division, department, and hospital committees. The Manager with the Point of care lead will be responsible for the Point of Care program that includes but is not limited to support of current point of care systems, implementation of new programs, and working with clients on training and competencies.
The Manager will oversee the office staff responsible for making and receiving client calls and monitoring client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Operational Organization and Productivity
- Oversees the daily operations of Point of care with the point of care lead. Provide backup to the POC lead as necessary in facilitating training and competency in the inpatient and outpatient clinics.
- Oversees the daily operations of the Quality program.
- Oversees the daily operations of the Safety program
- Oversees office staff responsible for incoming and outgoing client calls.
- Manages daily scheduling, competency assessment, training, and continuing education for employees in these areas. Evaluates employee performance and provides counseling and disciplinary action when necessary.
- Communicates effectively with managers and other section supervisors to develop and prioritize departmental goals. Attends meetings within the hospital, including Laboratory Quality and Managers Meetings, related to such matters as programs, policies, activities and services provided by the hospital that may impact the operations of the department and hospital.
Quality, Performance Improvement and Safety
- Ensure the lab safety program within the lab, meeting standards set by OSHA in accordance with hospital based safety programs.
- Maintains a quality assurance program that monitors operational, clinical, and financial performance across all aspects of outreach programs. Ensures staff comply with organizational safety policies and procedures including wearing of appropriate PPE and use of engineering controls.
Personnel Management, Collaboration & Team Development
- Responsible for developing training, education and competency programs as well as supervise the training of new employees, assess competency, provide evaluations and continuing education for their direct reports.
- Participates in a number of inter and intra-departmental committees. These committees are designed to foster collaborating efforts that improve patient services across the continuum of care.
- Participates in the development and implementation of programs designed to foster team and individual professional development, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Regulatory Agency & Corporate Compliance
- Responsible for developing, writing, implementing, updating and ensuring employee compliance with policies and procedures in accordance with the Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists, New York State Department of Health, CLIA, CMS, & OSHA guidelines.
Growth of the Referral Base and Promotion in Primary and Secondary Service Areas
- Assists in establishing network relationships and outreach activities to meet the needs of established clients and attract business from prospective clients. Assess new technologies and expand test menu to meet the needs of our clients.
Financial Performance and Budgeting
- Helps develop strategies that increase market share and contribution margin. Monitors and controls operating costs within the budget. Develops annual operating and capital budgets, monitors these targets on a routine basis; justifies any sizeable variances.
Physician, Staff & Customer Satisfaction
- Helps the Network VP of Clinical Lab Operations and the AVP of Clinical Services (CVPH) oversee the appropriate analysis and response to surveys utilized by the organization to gather physician, staff and customer feedback. Assists to develop and implement initiatives designed to address and improve physician, staff and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or other Biological Related field required. Master's preferred.
- Current New York State licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required.
- ASCP (MT) certification preferred.
- Previous Supervisory Experience in Biological or Laboratory Field preferred.
