In compliance with applicable New York and New Jersey State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) is mandatory for all MSK employees, contingent workers, and volunteers. Exceptions are permitted for those employees who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption.
*Staff working at a MSK New Jersey location must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, which includes having completed the primary COVID-19 vaccination series and booster once eligible as mandated by New Jersey State. All New Jersey staff not yet eligible for a booster must receive a booster within 3 weeks of becoming eligible as a condition of continued employment at MSK.
Note: Individuals are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster five months after receiving the second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two months after the J&J vaccine.

The Dinshaw J. Patel laboratory in the Structural Biology Program at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) has openings for several postdoctoral positions for individuals with biochemical and single particle cryo-EM training and experience in biomacromolecular structure determination.
Preferred qualifications include a PhD in structural biology with biochemistry training working with soluble/membrane proteins and/or RNA, hands-on experience with single particle cryo-EM sample preparation and optimization, data collection and processing, coupled together with strong organizational and communication skills. We are interested in self-motivated candidates who exhibit qualities reflective of independent thinkers and conceptual contributors, who are capable of working both independently and as part of a team effort.
Research in the Patel lab is focused on the following areas: (1) Mechanistic insights into CRISPR-Cas and cGAS-STING surveillance complexes and suppressors of these pathways; (2) Structure and regulation of DNA-bound Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) Smc5/6 and Mre11/Rad50 complexes, as well as multi-subunit complexes associated with double strand break (DSB) repair in meiosis; (3) Role of histone and DNA posttranslational modifications in epigenetic regulation; (4) Structure and catalytic mechanisms of nucleolytic ribozymes and small RNA silencing pathways; (5) Structure-guided optimization of small molecules targeted to viral pathogenic proteins and protein-RNA complexes, towards collaborative efforts at accelerated development of therapeutic agents.
MSKCC, which is located across the street from Rockefeller University and Weill-Cornell Medical School, offers ample opportunities for collaborative research within the tri-institutional campus location. The Patel lab has access to state-of-the-art cryo-EM facilities both in-house at MSKCC (one operational Titan KRIOS instrument and another on order), on a time-share access at the New York Structural Biology Center [NYSBC] (four operational KRIOS instruments) and on BAG time access at the National cryo-EM Facility [NCCAT] at NYSBC (four operational KRIOS instruments).

This is an annual appointment renewable by mutual agreement, with motivated postdoctorals staying up to 5 years of training, thereby providing them with sufficient time to be productive and meet their career goals.
