This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: Board Certified in Psychiatry Preferred Experience: At least 3 years in a Mental Health leadership position and some experience in a VA setting. The successful candidate will lead a large and diverse staff of clinicians, researchers, and administrators, including physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, vocational specialists, peer support specialists, and administrative support personnel. The Director is responsible for the overall operations and management of all Mental Health services, providing strategic leadership that fosters continued growth in research and education and strong working alliances with the University of Minnesota Medical School and VA leadership at local, regional (VISN 23), and national levels. Essential qualifications include excellent interpersonal and clinical skills, creative problem-solving ability, flexibility of thought, \"big-picture\" thinking, and deftness in leading and working within inter- and multi-disciplinary groups. The successful candidate will qualify for an academic appointment at the University of Minnesota Medical School at the Associate or Full Professor level and should have a proven track record of mentoring junior faculty. The Minneapolis VAHCS is an essential training site for the University of Minnesota Medical School and Psychiatry Residency Program, as well as for several other clinical training programs (e.g. VA psychology training program, social work trainees from a variety of schools, and a VA interprofessional training program). The successful candidate will assume the roles of Director of Mental and Behavioral Health ICC and the head of Psychiatry. They will be responsible for the clinical operations of the service line as well as overseeing academic and research responsibilities. They will ensure inter- and multi-disciplinary collaboration in the development and implementation of treatment plans, clinical services and programs; develop, implement, and oversee undergraduate and graduate medical educational activities; build the ICC's research enterprise; direct all activities including budget and fiscal management, Human Resources Management, strategic planning, and program management; provide consultation and guidance in the development of policy and procedures based on evidenced based practice standards; and develop and maintain programs in the areas of professional peer review, organizational improvement, continuing education, clinical privileging and other improvement activities.
