Job Description
The Bureau of Communicable Disease, part of the Division of Disease Control, tracks over 73 infectious diseases including enteric, waterborne, zoonotic and Vectorborne diseases; the Bureau investigates approximately 30 foodborne and enteric disease outbreaks in New York City (NYC) annually.
The bureau is looking for a highly qualified Epidemiologist to provide support for foodborne disease cluster and outbreak detection and response unit.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Provide support for daily operations of the syndromic surveillance system.
Provide written interpretations of statistical analyses and to present findings in written reports and oral presentations.
Support daily operations, maintenance and quality assurance related to the foodborne disease outbreak detection application that uses social media data to identify outbreaks.
Perform scientific research investigations of foodborne illness detected either through traditional or syndromic surveillance.
Assist in outbreak investigation, case management and routine epidemiological surveillance which will involve working closely with other divisions at the agency such as environmental and the laboratory.
Develop interview tools, oversee survey questionnaire completion, data entry, analysis and report writing.
Prepare reports of analyses in abstracts, presentations, manuscripts, internal reports and for webpage.
Be assigned to an emergency response team and assist with public health emergency responses made by the Bureau and the Department.
