Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the manager of the partial hospitalization & intensive outpatient programs
(PHP/IOP), working collaboratively with the medical directors of the programs and hospital leadership, and
as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, the PHP/IOP Supervisor is responsible for the clinical care
provided to LPPH&C's PHP/IOP participants. This position supervises the program therapists providing
clinical leadership and oversight, identifying and addressing clinical staff and program needs. This position
will maintain a modest clinical caseload, providing group individual and case management services to
patients in the LPPH&C. Direct patient care duties include,but are not limited to, providing transitional and
comprehensive mental health services including case management, group and individual therapy, family
psychotherapy, and crisis intervention, to a caseload of severely mentally ill adults who are high risk for
psychiatric hospitalization. This position will complete psychosocial/functional assessments, mental status
examinations, comprehensive treatment development, and discharge planning. This position will
coordinate treatment among various agencies and advocate for client to link with needed resources. This
position will work with treatment team and inpatient/outpatient units to facilitate referrals and service. This
position will attend staff and treatment planning meetings.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

• Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field from an accrediteduniversity
• Previous supervisory/lead experience (min. 3 years)
• Previous relevant experience (min. 5 years)
• Experience working with populations of diverse ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual orientation
• Recent direct patient care experience in a mental health setting, group and crisis management skills
• Demonstrated ability to provide transitional, comprehensive mental health services including psychotherapy, crisis intervention, outreach, and case management to a caseload of severely mentally ill adults who are high risk for psychiatric hospitalization
• Demonstrated ability to complete psychosocial/functional assessments, mental status examinations, comprehensive treatment development, and discharge planning
• Minimum of one year of experience providing psychotherapy groups and/or individual interventions using evidence-based practices, e.g., dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, or acceptance commitment therapy groups
• Excellent documentation and clinical skills
• Ability to prioritize; work independently, excellent follow-up, work well under pressure and deadlines
• Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability
• Demonstrated ability to assess suicide and violence risk
• Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with colleagues as a member of the treatment team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and may include weekend shifts

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with people with severe and chronic mentally illnesses, including disorders related to mood, anxiety, psychosis, and personality
• Recent direct patient care experience in acute inpatient psychiatric, outpatient, or partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient program settings
• Internal candidate with knowledge of UCSF Health system
• Previous management experience (usually 3-5 years)
• Demonstrated knowledge of mental health system in SF bay area, and demonstrated ability to navigate mental health system to organize services for patients and family members
• Experience working with people with severe mental illness, homelessness, co-occurring substance use disorders, and medical comorbidities
• Experience providing comprehensive mental health services to children, adolescents, and their families, including individual, group, and family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, outreach, and case management in acute or long term inpatient and outpatient care settings
• Ability to cross-cover in programs with various populations

License/Certification

• Licensed in the State of California (LCSW, LMFT)
• Active Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within six months of hire
