The Advanced Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is responsible for providing healthcare services to patients under the supervision of, and/or in collaboration with, the attending physician. These services include, but not limited to, medical evaluation, treatment, counseling, and referrals. As with any other health care professional, the Advanced Practitioner is charged with being a patient advocate. The Advanced Practitioner will participate in patient satisfaction, quality, and performance improvement initiatives.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works under the guidance of the Director of Bariatric Medicine and in conjunction with other Weight Management Center providers and staff to primarily care for pre-surgical, non-surgical and occasionally post- surgical patients.
- Screen/Diagnose at risk patients for weight related comorbid conditions and devise and implement appropriate treatment as a member of their healthcare team.
- Educate, advise and emphasize nutrition, behavioral, exercise and other healthy lifestyles to help patients meet their weight loss and health goals.
- Understand the indications, benefits, risks/complications/side effects of different weight loss treatment modalities that include: bariatric surgery, intensive lifestyle intervention programs, very low calorie diets, prescription weight loss medications and other lifestyle change approaches and advise patient accordingly.
- Deliver evidence-based care in a motivational, empathetic and compassionate manner.
- Performs in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients as needed.
EDUCATION:
Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner or Medical Physician Assistant with current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. Physician Assistants must also have a current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience desired, preferably in medical weight loss, internal medicine or primary care. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday, day with some evenings.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transport patients weighing up to 250 lbs. via wheelchair or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.
